PRINTING ENVELOPES ON A HEWLETT PACKARD LASERJET
1. Create a free form report with margins set to zero.
2. Pagelength=C, for continuous.
3. Change setup string to \027&l1O\027&l3H
NOTE: The setup string must be typed EXACTLY as it
appears above. Be sure to distinguish zero
(0) from uppercase o (O), lowercase L (l) from
the numeral one (1).
4. Embed "\012" above the bottom form band.
PRINTING THE IBM GRAPHICS CHARACTER SET
To print with the IBM Graphic Character Set on the
LaserJet, the setup string ESC(10U needs to be entered
as follows:
1. Go into the report design mode.
2. From the design menu, select <S>ettings <S>etup <C>ustom.
3. Select the printer port and press <Enter>.
4. Enter the setup string: \027(10U
5. Save the report by selecting <D>o_It! from the menu.
PRINTING MAILING LABELS ON THE LASERJET
Successfully printing mailing labels is one of the most common
difficulties encountered when using Paradox and the HP Laserjet.
One of the problems which arises is the deletion of either the
top or bottom couple of lines of the mailing labels (i.e. labels
that are to appear at the top of a page are missing the first
couple of lines, or labels that are to appear at the bottom are
missing the bottom few lines or are positioned at the top of the
next page). The problem of "creeping" might also become an

unwanted side affect (i.e. the first line of printed text varies
from page to page). In order to avoid these problems when
printing out mailing labels on the HP Laserjet, you must not
assume that a software package automatically adjusts for all
variations. Thus, to get your labels to print successfully on
the HP Laserjet, the following steps should be taken:
1. Refer to page 123, section 5-2 of the PRESENTING PARADOX
DATA GUIDE on how to design mailing labels. An important
note: if using linesqueeze, specify fixed format.
2. Calculate the escape sequence which is to be sent to the
printer.
o STEP 1:
determine the number of lines within the form
band:
....+...10....+...20....+...30....+...
1─page──────────────────────────────
2─form───────────────────────────
3
4 AAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
5 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAA
6 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, AA AAAAAA
7
8─form───────────────────────────
9─page──────────────────────────────
════════════════════════════════════════
In this example [label height] = 5 (NOTE:
The form and page lines are not printed and do
not add blank lines. The line numbers are
displayed with the Control-V vertical line
key.)
o STEP 2:
Determine the number of rows of labels to be
printed on a page.

o STEP 3:
Calculate the number of lines each page is to
contain:
[# lines/page] = [label height] * [# rows of
labels/page]
o STEP 4:
Determine the (VMI) setting which is in ter ms
of lines per inch, where the spacing can be
set in 1/48 inch increments.
# = 10.6 / [# lines/page] * 48 Now to set the
(VMI).
3. The following escape sequence needs to be sent to the
printer.
\027&l#C
4. NOTE:
If the calculation in STEP 3 [# lines/page] = 60,
then you will not need to change the (VMI) default
setting.
